Happy Pancake Day

I must admit, I am a sucker for all things sweet. I even have breakfast pudding. I know it’s not good but I can’t help it. So it comes as no surprise, I love Pancake Day! A breakfast pudding with purpose. So today’s blog is all about pancakes and more importantly, how you can eat them on your wedding day and not just on Shrove Tuesday. So here are a few ideas and images for some flipping wedding inspiration. (Do you like what I did there?!)

1. Eat them for Breakfast

An obvious choice but a mighty good one. It’s so important to eat breakfast on the morning of your wedding day. Even if you’re nervous, try to eat a bit of something. You need energy for the exciting day ahead! Check out these pretty floral ones by clicking the link below. A cute photo to capture during your bridal prep, with your hair in rollers tucking into a pretty pancake. Those are the little moments from the day to remember too.

2. Canapes

Throwing in a sweet canapé can be a good way to mix things up during your drinks reception. Pancakes can be small stacks with berries and maple syrup. A little something different to wow your wedding guests and let’s face it, who doesn’t love an adorable bitesize pancake?

3. An Alternative Wedding Cake

Instead of cutting a traditional wedding cake, drizzle maple syrup over a huge stack of pancakes. From talking to couples lately, fewer people seem to be bothered about the whole cake cutting ceremony, so why not go for something alternative like this instead? Keep it unique and interesting.

4. Pancake Mix Wedding Favours

Such a cute homemade idea for guests to take away with them. I’m a huge fan of a favour and the more unique and out there they are, the better. Also, this is such a sweet idea for guests to make the morning after and reminisce about what an amazing day it was.

5. Pancake Station

Pancakes in the evening, wild I know, but great interactive food that guests will love as a surprise supper. Set up a pancake station with a display of the best toppings. They’ll give your guests that sugar rush they need to carry on dancing, keeping your dance floor full all night!

Jo Malone

Jo Malone

Recently, I experienced the Jo Malone bridal consultation, which was absolutely amazing. It was such a treat to learn about the importance of scenting your wedding and how the layers of fragrance can add so much to your wedding day.

I have to admit, I’m no regular at Jo Malone, I obviously wish I was, I mean a girl can dream, but no, this experience was very special. I don’t want you to think I do this all time.

It was a rainy Saturday morning in London but that didn’t dampen my excitement as I walked into the Jo Malone store in Sloane Square. The immediate rush of pure loveliness hits you as soon as you walk in. The smell is just divine and the design of the store (prepare for an interior design rant) is just done to perfection! The level of detail in the joinery of the display cabinets is perfect and reflects the quality of the brand and service. The symmetry in the store layout is precise and created in such a way that perfume bottles stand proud as a decorative feature, looking so elegant in the glass bottles with beautifully branded labels. Enough about the interior, you get it, it was good.

emily-k-weddings-jo-malone-13We sat at the bridal consultation counter, greeted and served a glass of champagne. On the counter for each of us was a brochure, a little box of sugared almonds and a scented pillow. It all set the scene for a luxury experience.

Charley Ann, our consultant, started by asking us what type of smells we liked and focused on how we wanted a wedding day to feel like. Nicola, my friend who is getting married in October 2017, told her the type of perfume she currently uses and what she liked and doesn’t like. She also asked her about the style of wedding she is having, the flowers and the venue. Each of these elements combine together to reflect the choice of fragrance. For example, if you’re having peonies in your bouquet, your scent could be complimented with the Peony Blush & Suede cologne.

Charley Ann selected 3-4 scents to start with for us to try. They all smelt amazing but we each had our favourite. She then explained about layering scents and the art of Fragrance Combining. This would create something unique for you to wear on your wedding day. We learnt a lot during our consultation but most importantly learnt not to overlook the power of smell.

It’s not just about the perfume you wear, scenting your wedding can start from the moment of getting ready. Bath or shower in a fragrance to suit you and moisturise with a lotion that will enhance your perfume.

On the day, choose candles and room and linen sprays to create atmosphere. This will really set the tone to your wedding day. Again, use room fragrances that complement the scent you’re wearing.

The more I think about it, I realise the stranger our sense of smell actually is. It’s such a strong sense and reacts differently with everyone. It’s a key memory trigger and therefore is most important to get right for your wedding day. Imagine putting on your wedding day perfume 20 years from now and those memories flooding back to you. It would be like total magic. Don’t under estimate the power of smell on your wedding day. Book a free consultation at one of your Jo Malone stores to feel pampered and learn more about scenting your wedding in a luxury way.
