5 Reasons You Need a Wedding Stylist

A wedding stylist isn’t necessarily a key ingredient to the wedding planning recipe, more like the garnish on the top making everything that bit better and taste even more yummy.
Here’s why that garnish is so much more than just a cherry on the top…

5 reasons you need a wedding stylist…

1. Save Money

Save money by hiring decor rather than buying it. Hiring a wedding stylist can be cheaper than doing everything yourselves. Stylists know where to get props and decor to help you make your wedding day even more amazing.

2. Save Time

No one wants to be stressed or under pressure on their wedding day. A wedding stylist can set it all up for you before or on the morning of your wedding. Therefore, you have time to relax, get ready with mum and your bridesmaids, sip prosecco and just enjoy! Trust me, I’ve experienced this first hand on my own wedding day. On the morning of my wedding day, my parents and husband-to-be were frantically running around decorating the venue, they came back so stressed and had to rush to get ready. I felt so bad for doing that to them and I missed enjoying my morning with my mum. So please don’t have the same regret I did!

A stylist can also save you time before the day itself. I will help source decor so you don’t have to and if you have those extra bits you want to do yourself, just let me know and I’ll style them for you on the day. I totally understand if you want to use those Gin bottles you’ve been saving for table names!

3. Less Effort

It’s a lot more effort than you anticipate doing the styling yourself. Doing all the DIY elements, packing them up the day before then collecting the morning after your wedding is so much effort. The last thing you want to do after your first breakfast as husband and wife is clear up at the venue! A stylist does all that for you. Get yourselves off onto that honeymoon!

4. Better Design

When you’ve got a Pinterest board bursting at the seams with ideas that have evolved and changed so much, you don’t know what you want anymore! A wedding stylist can help you refine your wedding style and put together a more cohesive wedding design for you. My Story of Your Day pack does just that. Aimed at couples who have been bombarded with ideas and worried about which direction to take their wedding style, the pack clarifies those details and ideas to bring your day to life in a narrative. After reading through it, I guarantee, it’ll make you even more excited about your wedding day, maybe even a tear to your eye. My job as a wedding stylist is to then bring the Story of Your Day to life by sourcing, design decor and working with the best suppliers.

5. Higher Quality

Chances are you might be able to get cheaper props from the high street, but you know what, if I’m being honest, they’ll look cheap. Quality is so important on your wedding day, those little details matter and if you hire a wedding stylist, they will have more high quality or specialised decor to set your wedding apart and elevate your wedding design. The quality of service for a stylist is important too. I communicate with you throughout your wedding planning and draw up a layout plan so your wedding design is exactly how you want!

It occurred to me the other day that I’m missing out on the lovely autumn vibes at home. I love Autumn! I know it’s probably many people’s least favourite but for me I love going for walks in rustling leaves, getting wrapped up and relaxing with a cosy coffee on the sofa. I also love Halloween and Bonfire night. Again, I know some people think these are so commercial now but come on, brighten up the Autumn by embracing the festivities.

Missing Autumn got me thinking about an inspiration board for an Autumn wedding. Most wedding venues get booked up first in the Spring and Summer months, however, if you’re a bride and groom with your hearts set on a certain venue, don’t let the season ruin your plans. Embrace the off season and create a cosy, autumn wedding full of golden tones and texture.

The colour palette for a true autumn style wedding obviously includes the golden and red tones inspired by the leaves. Teamed with a deep blue/ grey tone for an edge and soft natural tones for elegance and lightness. Don’t think that you have to choose one colour for your wedding style, don’t be defined by one colour. Think tonal and creative.

The florals on the board are organic and rustic representing the true nature of autumn. This is repeated in the headpiece which adds colour to the dress and a wild, bohemian texture. The flowing tulle dress has natural movement, again adding the organic free spirit of Autumn vibes.

The lighting and woodland location is soft and romantic. So romantic you are both whisked away when saying your ‘I do’s’. Lost in a moment with each other surrounded by candle light and nature.

The cake and gin bar are rustic focal points. Adorned with detail and foraged fruit. The semi naked cake makes a statement to Autumn and says it’s ok for the wild walks and lazy days. The gin bar in my opinion is always a must and this could adopt spiced gin flavours teamed with blackberries and wild herb garnishes – warming flavours of Autumn as opposed to those light summer blends.

The overall feel for this Autumn styled wedding is relaxed, romantic and intimate. So when your dream venue only has availability in October or November, don’t rule out an inspiring Autumn wedding day. It can be more magical than you expected. (And sometimes cheaper).

Brides The Show

Hello.

Autumn has well and truly fallen upon us and after shopping for a new cosy jumper this weekend, I am ready for it! The rustling leaves, shiny conkers and snug nights in make me feel a sense of humbleness inside. Saying that, I did venture out in the rain this weekend to visit Brides the Show at the design centre in Islington. I hadn’t been to this show before so didn’t know what to expect, but it was really amazing, not too big and very welcoming.

The first real wow factor as soon as you stepped into the exhibition space were the show stopping cakes from various suppliers. The meringue rainbow was just so elegant and the unicorn was what every little girl dreams about. They looked too perfect to be real never mind to eat. There really are some very talented people out there in this fabulous industry.

The show on Saturday afternoon was bustling, but a squeeze to the right supplier meant a lovely conversation finding out about the services they have on offer and who they are as a company or person. We chatted to amazing photographers such as Alexandra Hall and Tupou Photography, whose work, beautifully displayed drew us right in to their space to find out more.

Gathering business cards, brochures and juggling free raspberry mojito samples can be tiring so a much needed sit down and a refuel was needed. This gave Nicola and I, my friend who is getting married next year, a chance to catch up and hear about how her wedding plans are going so far.

We continued to wonder round and be further inspired by stationery from Papier, and Br& new weddings. Calligraphy workshops from Quill got me hooked and made me set my New Year’s resolution already – learn calligraphy. Watch this space!

Just to wonder round the show and be surrounded by the inspiring wedding industry was amazing. It also helped me gain a small glimpse to what works at a show, what doesn’t, what were brides picking up, what were they bypassing? What were people captivated by and photographing? All a good experience to help me with my own wedding business for the future.

Next weekend I’m helping an amazing wedding planner and stylist, Pamella Dunn, at the Wedding Affair show at The Royal Hall in Harrogate. I’m very excited about helping out, and having my eyes opened to the back stage coordination that goes on to exhibit at one of Yorkshire’s best wedding shows. Tickets can be purchased online, click here for more information. Come along and say Hi!Emily
